Search Engine Optimization Services
SEO involves using the right combination of keywords, links, titles, descriptions, and URLs to increase your search engine rank.
It does not include any paid form of advertising, such as Google Ads (though we do that too).
Paid SEO may be a great strategy for your business, but even then, you’ll need to have some form of organic SEO implemented as well.
Let’s talk about why each of the elements of organic SEO matters so much.
Once upon a time, web pages were written poorly. Keyword stuffing was common, and writers focused on producing content for search engines and not for people.
It was extremely hard to read web pages in those days. Writers would focus on incorporating keywords and keyword phrases into content whether they made sense or not. For keywords that they couldn’t work into their articles, they’d just list them at the bottom of the page.
It was sloppy, and it wasn’t long before Google said, “Hey, this has to change!”
Today, keyword usage has changed dramatically. We know that using the right keywords is still just as important, but they need to be included in natural ways that make sense to Google and bring value to the people who are reading those pages.
We take the time to do keyword research to ensure we’re providing you with the right keywords for your business.
Whenever we talk with clients about linking, we always use the road analogy.
Linking is a way of tying a webpage to either another internal page or an external page. In a sense, it’s like building roads to other pages. Link clicks don’t necessarily give your site more authority on Google, so no one needs to travel those roads, but they do need to be built.
Linking has to be done correctly because if it’s not, Google could end up penalizing your site. Proper linking involves:
- Ensuring your anchor text makes sense with the link you chose.
- Ensuring you have the right number of links (and this is constantly changing).
- Ensuring you’re not sending your customers to a competitor’s site.
- Ensuring you’re providing ways to inform your customers while keeping them on your website.
At Colwell Creative, we know the power of linking, and we’re careful to customize this strategy to meet your industry’s needs.
Titles & Descriptions
If you go to any website and right-click in the white space and then choose View Page Source, you’ll get a page of HTML code. That code is what makes your website look the way it looks.
If you look carefully, you’ll see the words Title and Description on that HTML page. These two elements should be added by anyone who is writing your content or uploading it to your site.
Your Title and Description are really important because they’re a key part of what Google uses to help determine your rank for various keywords. They need to be a certain length, informative, and helpful. Without them, people may not be able to find you when they search for your products and services.
Finally, your URLs matter too. They need to be relevant to your business name, the type of business you have, and the name of the page on your website.
Sometimes we recommend that our clients have more than one URL that points to the same website. That helps with their organic SEO and it makes it easier for people to find them when searching for their products and services.
