How to Perfect Your Site’s SEO in 5 Easy Steps

If you’re like a lot of business owners, just the thought of search engine optimization may make your head spin.

What do those words even mean?

There are a few key things you can do to improve your website rank, and most of them aren’t hard at all; they just take a little bit of time.

Let’s talk about five easy steps you can begin taking right now to give your business website a little boost on Google.

Step 1: Use Your Keywords Correctly

If you aren’t sure what the right keywords are for your business, now is the time to find out. To do that, you can use a tool like the Google Keyword Planner or Ahrefs.

Once you’ve identified your main keywords, make sure your site’s content includes them in a natural way. They should be in many of your headers and woven throughout your text.

Note: Google isn’t going to read any text that appears on your images. It must be on the actual page, so please keep that in mind.

Step 2: Update Your Blog Regularly

Google is constantly looking for sites that get updated on a regular basis. This is why it’s so critical for business owners to have a blog with new posts every now and then.

But avoid putting just anything on your blog. Your content should be:

  • Relevant - Your blog posts should pertain to your business/industry.

  • Authoritative - Choose topics that position you as a great resource.

  • Engaging - Don’t forget your calls to action and invite people to share your posts on their social media pages.

Step 3: Don’t Forget About the Metadata

When it comes to SEO and doing it well, metadata matters. Your metadata is the stuff that you don’t necessarily see on the pages of your site. But people who are searching for what you have to offer them see it in their search engine results.

Each page on your site should have a:

  • Title - This should be no more than 60 characters long.

  • Description - This should be between 145-155 characters long and summarize what’s on the page.

  • Keyword metadata - This is added on the backend of your site, and it includes the relevant keywords and keyword phrases for your business.

Step 4: Include Links

You’ll notice in our blog posts and pages that we link as much as we can. For your site, you’ll want to link to other pages on your site as well as to external, authoritative pages.

If your content is good, you may even attract links from other websites, which adds to your site’s credibility.

When linking, choose anchor text that makes sense. If your anchor text includes your keywords, that’s even better.

Step 5: Use Your Social Media Platforms

A lot of business owners don’t realize the direct relationship between their websites and their social media pages.

Consistently sharing your site’s blog posts and pages on Facebook and other platforms will do wonders for your SEO. And it’s very easy to do.

The more roads you can build back to your site, the better.
