Does Your Website Need an Audit?

The content that appears on your website is critical. It’s what helps to build your relationship with your audience.

But if your website doesn’t have good visibility, or if it’s not ranking, it’s your competition who will be capturing potential customers’ attention.

That’s exactly what you want to avoid.

At Colwell Creative Content, we can do an audit for your website, but this is also something that you can do yourself.

Here’s what you need to know.

Figure Out the Purpose of Each Page

Every page on your website should have a defining purpose:

  • It is a sales page?

  • Is it an informational page?

  • Is it a contact page?

You might have some pages on your site that don’t really have any purpose at all, if so, those should be removed or replaced with pages that will help you achieve your goals.

Check Out Your Analytics

Your visitors and the number of conversions you get each month might be available through your hosting provider, but it’s best if you can check out Google Analytics to get this information.

Tip: If you haven’t connected Google Analytics to your website, now’s the time!

Once you can see your analytics, you can learn what types of pages people like and what pages are causing them to leave your site quickly (this is called your bounce rate).

Your website analytics will tell you if your website visitors are doing the things you want them to do. If they’re not, it might be time to change things up.

Make Sure Everything on Your Website is Up to Date

  • Has your business moved? Did you change its location on your website?

  • Is your phone number/email address correct?

  • Are your social media icons pointing people to the right sites?

Having incorrect information on your website is a sure way for Google to penalize it. So this part is critical.

Don’t Forget to Check in on Your Competition

Website content, SEO, and ranking are all a part of the game. You want to know that your site is performing better than your competitions’ website.

If it’s not, or if their sites have important elements that yours doesn’t, you can guess what’s going to happen.

Google will rank them ahead of you, which can hurt your bottom line in a big way.

Create a Plan of Attack

After you’ve checked out all of the above, it’s time to take action.

What does your website need? Is it something you can do yourself, or do you need to hire a professional?
